During this Economic Uncertainty, yet Wanting to Celebrate a Special Occasion....

During this time of economic uncertainty, when we are making a purchase more than ever do we want to get the best quality for the money, yet still celebrate the special moments in our lives. So, if you are one of those people, that is fortunate enough to support one of your local jewelers to celebrate an occasion, this might be the article for you to read.

Choosing the right pair of diamond stud earrings can be overwhelming, if you do not know where to start. I suggest starting with the 4C's; color, clarity, cut and carat weight, which are the universal standards set by GIA, the foremost authority in the gemology world today. This is where I went to gemology school and what a fantastic learning experience for me. Living in Southern California while at GIA wasn't so bad either.

Diamond colors range from D to Z, the beginning of the scale is D - F, which is colorless and the latter end of the scale X - Z you will notice a yellow or brownish color. G - H in color, known as nearly colorless shows up beautiful with the right cut and clarity. So, no reason to purchase D - F as you can save a significant amount of money with a G - H, getting a bright nearly colorless white diamond with the right cut and clarity to compliment.

Clarity also known as inclusion or blemishes known as the fingerprint of your diamond. An example would be a pinpoint, cloud, feather or crystal are some examples. Being lower on the clarity scale, slightly included (SI1 or SI2) or Included (I1 or I2) can be a good value and give you the opportunity to spend more on the cut and carat weight. The only way someone will see the inclusions on a diamond earring is if they look with a 10 powered jeweler's loupe and most likely that won't happen.

Cut is a crucial part of the equation in purchasing the right diamond studs because a poor cut will lack brightness even if the color is good, fire and scintillation. The diamonds will look dull and have no life. On the GIA grading scale look for excellent and very good with cut, polish and symmetry.

Carat weight is the size of the diamond. One to two carats total weight is great for everyday and will be noticeable to make a statement. Of course, you can always go bigger if that's in your budget and this is not her first pair. Then, the sky's the limit!!!

Another thing to consider if you would like to make the diamond studs look larger than you can afford, add a halo giving the diamond center stone a larger look. Diamond studs are perfect for every occasion, from the office, afternoon lunch or a sophisticated evening affair. You won't be sorry and she will most likely love the thoughtful gesture of remembering in difficult times you special event!

Behind the scenes of Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele

The global brand Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele appointed to his current position in 2015, has taken the Gucci line to new heights. The line was stagnant for sometime, yet since Alessandro has brought his flair for costume design to the brand, we are seeing sexy with a twist of chic trendiness.  I personally love some of the new Le Marche' des Merveilles jewelry, which loosely translates to The Path of Wonders.

He's an avid collector of many things, such as he has over 360 pairs of shoes in his closet, 35 different copies of the childhood story book Alice in Wonderland and collects miniature Meissen porcelain pugs. So, the whimsical style makes sense as his mother was in cinema and his fascination with Alice in Wonderland as well as his love for costume design.

In 2015 he was awarded the "International Designer of the Year" at the British awards held at the London Coliseum. The New York times called him, fashion's modern mastermind! Alessandro Michele a relatively unknown name in the design world before 2015. And, since on the scene has introduced "gender equality" by dress male models in an unconventional fashion. The 2016 Spring/Summer women's wear collection was largely appreciated and documented as "something more eccentric and bohemian".

Now in 2019, such a short time for his success he is known as one of the top global influencers! Quit a cry from no one knowing who he was.... To see the newest eclectic, feline motif fine jewelry Gucci collection do come visit me at Provident Jewelry at 766 5th Avenue South, Naples, FL 34106 or call me at 239.784.2682. I look forward to working with you!

Rare and beautiful, pink diamonds......

Pink diamonds are a type of diamond, which has all the same elements as a white diamond, except that they exhibit pink in color. Where the pink color comes from is the great debate in the gemological world, yet it is most commonly attributed to enormous additional pressure that these diamonds undergo during the formation process.
Pink diamonds are a subcategory of diamonds known as fancy colored diamonds, the generic term for all diamonds that exhibit any sort of color. Just like a white diamond, they range from flawless to included. The most well known is the Pink Star, which Sotheby's named the Pink Dream, originally found at 132.5 carats in the rough and when cut ended up as a 59.60 carat fancy vivid pink by GIA. This pink diamond was bid on at Sotheby's auction house in Geneva for $83 Million by New York diamond cutter Isaac Wolf.
GIA's color grading also known as scale is as follows; faint, very light, light, fancy light, fancy, fancy intense and fancy vivid. Faint being the least expensive and fancy vivid the most expensive. The richer and more saturated the color, the more expensive the diamond will be. Just as white diamonds, they also come in various shapes and sizes. Though, pink diamonds can be found in many mines around the world, yet often in very small quantities of just a few stones per year, and commonly in very small sizes. They are among the most sought after fancy colored diamonds in the world because of their romantic feel ing these diamonds stimulate in people.
In 2002 when Ben Affleck proposed to Jennifer Lopez it was with a 6.1 carat pink diamond. You don't have to be a celebrity to own one of these rare beauties, you just have to know the right place to shop! Provident Jewelry has a selection of pink diamond jewelry in all different categories, including rings, pins, necklaces and earrings with some examples shown below.

Keeping with St. Patrick's Day.....the world of peridot!

I do love the color green, maybe because it's one of the colors of the Italian flag and it is the birthstone for August. Yes, I am Italian and my birthday is in August. Peridot has a fascinting history both in nature and culture. It is one of the oldest gemstones, ancient records document the mining of this beautiful gemstone as early as 1500 B.C. This gem is especially connected with ancient Egypt, some actually believe the famous emeralds of Cleopatra's were actually peridot, not emeralds. Most gems are formed in the earth's crust, yet the two exceptions are peridot and diamonds. Peridot forms in magma, which is approximately 20 to 55 miles deeper than the earth's crust. Then, brought to the surface by tectonic or volcanic activity. I think the entire gemstone growth process is absolutely fascinating.

Also, another thing that sets this gemstone apart from others is it's one of the few gemstones that forms in only one color an olive-green. The intensity and tint of the green, is determined by the amount of iron that is contained in the crystal structure. So, the color of individual peridot gems can differ from yellow, to olive, to brownish-green. In rare cases, peridot can occur in medium-dark tones, visually pure green with a secondary yellow hue or brown mask.

Truly a lovely stone for those who fancy the color green. Some yummy jewelry below; what is your favorite piece?

Aquamarine, the transparent and versatile gemstone.....

The beryl species is one of the most notable gemstone families. Many people are only acquainted with the most famous beryl - emerald. But the family includes several important gemstones, including; aquamarine, morganite; in honor of the American banker and gem collector J.P. Morgan. Morganite is usually a soft pink to violet, yet a salmon-color is also known, helidor; also known as golden beryl and maxixe, least common and least known of the variety that is dark, sapphire blue in color. The different varieties of beryl are distinguished by their color, significant transparency and color. Deeper color blues command higher price per carat.
The traditional source for aquamarine is Brazil, yet recently some very fine Mozambique material has made it to the market for sale. Aquamarine ranges in color from a faint light blue to blue and bluish-green, with lighter colored stones being the most common type. Light green beryl can be transformed into aquamarine if heated. The green hues in most aquamarine can also be removed through heat treatment.
Aquamarine is the second most popular of the beryl, named for it’s seawater-like color. The name aquamarine is derived from the Latin words: aqua meaning “water” and marina meaning “of the sea”. It is the birthstone for March.
On the Mohs hardness scale they have a hardness of 7.5 - 8. Compared to a diamond, which is the hardest at 10 on the scale. A stone that is hard enough to wear often because it is durable, yet it may develop internal cracks if banged hard against something. Aquamarine is often completely flawless, unlike emerald. Aquamarine with visible flaws are rarely seen.
Aquamarine crystals range from very small to very large and can be up to 100 lbs. in some cases. Large stones are available, yet it is difficult to use very large stones in jewelry.

Princess Diana famously wore a large aquamarine ring during her visit to Sydney, Australia. The stone was emerald cut, flanked by diamonds and set in yellow gold. The Princess had commissioned the ring herself and would often wear it together with a diamond bracelet.

The below photos; several aquamarine specimens, stunning aquamarine and diamond briolette drop earrings.
